Caye Caulker is a small tropical Caribbean island off the coast of Belize. A small paradise where time doesn’t exist and where the local people live by the words “Go slow”. This popular tourist spot is surrounded by Belize’s Barrier Reef. This is the second largest reef in the world with a length of 256 kilometers. Pick one of the next amazing things to do in Caye Caulker and you will have an unforgettable experience!
1. 1 or 3-day sailing tour with Raggamuffin
Raggamuffin offers a unique sailing tour of 1 or 3 days to visit the remote coral areas for an unforgettable snorkeling experience. During this sailing tour you sail past various snorkeling stops or Caribbean islands where you have the whole sea to yourself and can frolic around in peace.
Day tour
The day tour starts at 10:30 AM and lasts until approximately 5:00 PM. During this tour there are three snorkeling stops
- Hol Chan Channel
- Shark and Ray Alley
- Coral Gardens
Between the snorkeling stops you sail at a nice pace and you can enjoy the sun and your company while having a glass of rum and a well-stocked plate of shrimp ceviche or chips and salsa (for the vegetarians).
The ride back to Caye Caulker takes about an hour and fifteen minutes. You will be back before sunset. This magical ending is a beautiful end to an unforgettable day where you’ve experienced all the highlights of Belize.
Pricing
The cost of the tour is 90 USD per person. The boat departs daily. This includes lunch, drinks, fruit and snorkel gear.
3-day tour
The 3-day tour starts at 10:00 AM and ends three days later at 12:00 PM. The tour sails from Caye Caulker and ends in Dangria. It’s not possible to do this tour reversed, because you have to stay on calm sea water. This multi-day, one-of-a-kind adventure is designed to access the remote and inaccessible parts of the Belize Reef. So you will have the best fucking snorkeling experience ever. During these three days the tour sails along different, uninhabited Caribbean islands. These islands are a piece of heaven that you never want to leave.
- Goffs Cate
- English Caye
- Tobacco Caye
- South Water Caye
During the days you will sail across the crystal clear sea and stop at least twice a day to snorkel among the many fish, sharks, turtles and rays
Residence
Both nights will be on a different island. Rendezvous Cayes offers a simple camping trip. This means that Raggamuffin provides all camping gear. You will spend your night in a tent on a sleeping mat including blankets. If you travel together you can sleep in one tent. When traveling alone, you are only allowed to sleep in a tent by yourself for privacy reasons.
There is no camping option on the second island, Ragga Cayes. They offer a shared dormitory with 4 bunk beds. The other option is a hammock. Both are included in the price.
Another option is to stay in a luxury cabin by the water with 2 king size beds, a private bathroom and private porch. You pay 100 USD extra per couple or you pay 37.50 USD if you are with a group of 3 or more people. Please note: these cabins must be reserved for the tour due to availability.
The shower facilities are simple. So don’t expect too much. I myself recommend to bring extra washcloths/wet wipes, just in case. The larger Raggamuffin boats have shower facilities on the boat and the smaller boats carry water, so you can at least rinse off. There are toilets on all boats. You can use the shower facilities when you spend the night on the first island, because there are no facilities on this island. On the second island there are shower facilities on the island.
Food
When it comes to food, you can count on fresh fish every day. Shrimp, lobster and all kinds of fish are part of the daily menu. Of course there are plenty of vegetarian options too!
Pricing
The cost of this tour is 400 USD. The tour departs every Tuesday and Friday íf there are enough registrations (12 people). The price includes all taxes, snorkeling and fishing gear, camping gear and all delicious fresh food and plenty of drinks.
In Mexico I made the last minute decision to go to Belize for a few days, because I heard a lot of positive stories about Raggamuffin and their sailing tour. My eye immediately fell on the 3-day tour. I couldn’t wait to tan on a boat all day, drown while snorkeling and spend 2 nights on small islands. But of course it had to happen to me that there were not enough registrations for the 3-day tour, because of the low season. As a result, the tour for that month was unfortunately canceled. I was very disappointed, but luckily the day tour was a nice replacement. When I get the opportunity again, I will definitely book this tour myself.
Belize has one of the best snorkeling and diving areas in the world and I can confirm this 100%. This was by far one of the best boat tours I have ever done. Swimming in the crystal clear water with sharks, turtles and rays has given me an unforgettable experience.

2. Diving / snorkeling in the Blue Hole
The Great Blue Hole is a huge sinkhole off the coast of Belize. This is a popular spot for scuba diving. I decided not to take diving lessons, last minute. (AKA anxiety kicked in, because I don’t have a swimming certificate) Because of this, I decided to go snorkeling in the Blue Hole. I didn’t know this was possible until it was sold to me. So I thought, why not?
I booked this tour with Frenchie’s Diving. Disclaimer: bring your travel pills, because it’s going to be a bumpy ride.
The tour starts at 5:30 AM and ends around 4:00 PM. You will sail at full speed towards the Blue Hole where you can dive and snorkel. This ride takes about 2 hours (with a bit of luck and extremely fast speed 1.5 hours).
When you have your advanced PADI, you dive to a depth of 40 meters in the Blue Hole. You will get 3 diving opportunities and will dive with 8-15 others, in addition there is the possibility to snorkel. The snorkeling in Belize is great everywhere and quite an experience.
Pricing
The cost of the diving is 310 USD including park fee. Very expensive but to be honest that comes into play when you choose to dive. In addition, Belize is also very expensive. The costs for snorkeling are 175 USD including park fee. This includes snorkel or dive equipment, a light breakfast, a great lunch, salad, fruit and plenty of drinks. I must add that these prices can be halved in the low season. For example, I paid 100 USD for snorkeling instead of 175 USD.

3. Snorkeling
Snorkeling is the first thing that comes to mind when you are in Caye Caulker. The reef is home to many fish, sharks and rays. There are several snorkeling tours available on the islands. And to be fair, most of them offer a great tour that you will remember forever.
I myself recommend Raggamuffin and Frenchie’s Diving. They are both highly recommended for their services and their friendly staff. What I do recommend is to google the tour operator that you ultimately choose. There are a number of operaters who consciously hold and feed the sharks and rays in one place so that tourists can take pictures. I am not in favor of this myself. In fact: the national parks don’t allow it, but ofcourse a lot of operators do it anyway. Often people write a review about this. Which is nice in my opinion, because it gives us an insight into how certain tours work.
4. Sunset cruise with Raggamuffin
And again a tour of Raggamuffin. Just do your research and you will find that many people have had the most wonderful experience with Raggamuffin. Mostly because of the great staff who provide a chill atmosphere and conviviality.
The magical sunset sailing tour creates a beautiful view of the Caribbean sea that lights up at sunset and the light of the moon. This tour is a perfect way to end your day or to celebrate something.
The sunset cruise starts approximately 45 minutes before the sun sets and lasts approximately 2.5 hours. You sail through the Split to watch the sunset while enjoying a snack and drink.
Pricing
The cruise operates daily and is 40 USD per person.

5. Chill at the Split
The Split is a narrow channel that splits Caye Caulker in two. North and South Caye Caulker. People believe this was the result of Hurricane Hattie causing a lot of damage throughout Belize. The water in the Split is clear blue and beautiful. It is certainly the island’s most popular swimming area for locals and tourists.
The island is surrounded by beautiful seas, but unfortunately there are not really beaches or anything like that where you can relax. The Split is a great alternative for this. Sit on a wooden deck chair on the pier, order your drink or snack from Lazy Lizard Bar and Grill and enjoy the fantastic views and reggae vibes for the rest of the day.
